Our Story

An Old World Heritage

The story of our family owned hotel dates back to the 1970s, when our founder Fred Perera used the spare rooms at his mother's family home in Bandarawela to host visitors to our small town. His love for hospitality made him bring the Orient Hotel to life, and this love has been passed down the generations since. Our family has proudly continued this tradition of hospitality, and management of the hotel has now been taken over by the third generation, with each of us adding our own personal touch to our family legacy, whilst still keeping the hotel’s vintage, old world charm intact.

Over the years, as the Ella region grew in popularity with travellers, we have also expanded our offering to now be the foremost adventure hotel in the area.

We are proud to be the leader in curated excursions and experiences for our guests such as nature treks, village visits, temple stays and camping. Each of these immersive experiences are unique to the area, and you will be able to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty, cultural heritage and friendly people of the Ella region.

Nine Arch Bridge

Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the 'bridge in the sky', is one of the most popular landmarks in Sri Lanka and a must-visit in Ella. Located between Ella and Demodara railway stations, it is a renowned colonial-era construction surrounded by lush landscapes. Named after the famous Scottish baron and tea planter Sir Thomas Lipton, the Lipton's Seat is an observation point in the hills of Poonagala surrounding tea plantations. It is located close to Dambatenna Tea Factory and known for it's stunning panoramic views of the area.
